Winter 2006/7
We have a number of work parties through the winter, where we do vital work to maintain the site. Please click on Diary Dates to the left
Summer 2006
The summer brought us some extreme weather conditions, we had tropical heat for our guided walk and rain on our Moth Night but Jim still managed to identify 2 new species for the field. In August the Wildlife Family Fun Day was a huge success and on a sunny September day we had a small army of youngsters squirrelling away for nuts, resulting in some fresh nuts found proving the Dormice are still onsite.
March 2006
Scrub Bashing : Our final work party of the winter was spent cutting down the larger scrub adjacent to the lower path. This helps the path get more light and dry the ground.
February 2006
Scrub Bashing Hedge Laying: Again we had another very well attended work party on another very, very cold foggy day. We split up into 3 groups; a major patch of bramble was cleared away from the path near the top corner gate, the hedge fence that we started last month was added to and some scrub was cleared to open up the space above the play area.
January 2006
Hedge Laying: We had one of our best attended work parties ever on a very, very cold day. Our target, a stretch of boundary along the field that was once a hedge but had become overgrown with bramble. Teams worked together to clear the bramble, then cut hazel growing nearby, which were then used to build frame fencing before laying the existing bits of hedging. A fantastic job which can be viewed if you walk along the path down the the pub.
